The Shiawassee 4-H Dog Development Committee met recently to plan several upcoming events. All events are family friendly for young and old.

The Bay Area Regional Kennel Club (BARKC) is hosting a UKC dog show at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds on Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28. As a fundraiser, the Shiawassee 4-H Dog program members and parents will be assisting BARKC and holding a bake sale. Registration is available in advance or the day of show from 8 to 9 a.m. on both days. The show starts at 10 a.m. Classes include breed confirmation and Jr. Showmanship. United Flushing Spaniel Association is holding an all breed match, one hour after conclusion of the UKC show on May 28. BARKC will also be hosting a second show on October 1 and 2. For more information on either show, interested persons may email the event Chairman

The Shiawassee Dog Program will also participate in the upcoming Curwood Festival. On Friday, June 3, members and dogs will walk in the Curwood Country Kid’s Parade. On June 4, as a part of the Curwood Festival, the 4-H Dog committee will host the Curwood Dog of the Year event on Saturday morning in the Mitchell Amphitheater lawn area. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with competition starting at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $5 per event or $20 for all five events. The winner of the competition for the ‘Curwood Dog of the Year’ and all dogs participating are welcome to walk in the Curwood parade Saturday afternoon.

On Saturday, June 25, the Shiawassee 4-H Dog Program will be hosting a dog show at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds. The show will be held, rain or shine, inside the Dog Barn.
