THE DURAND RAILROAD DAYS PARADE took place Saturday, May 14, despite the cold, rainy, and blustery weather. Even with the unfavorable conditions, the popular parade was again well attended by spectators and participants alike. County political candidates came out in full force, with 85th District Rep. candidates Ben Frederick, Anthony Karhoff, and John Horvath participating; in addition to clerk candidates Caroline Wilson and Lauri Braid, township supervisor commissioner candidate Brandon Marks, as well as sheriff candidates Joe Ibarra and Brian BeGole.
Additionally, the parade drew royalty from across the region, with Curwood, Shiawassee County Fair, and Montrose Blueberry queens, attendants, and court members braving the elements, in addition to the Railroad Days Queen, Attendant, Princess, and Prince. Several Durand churches decorated floats for the parade, as did the Durand Cub Scouts Pack 84, the Shai Alley Clown Klub, and the AYSO Region 814, among others. Durand Railroad Person of the Year Neil Randall also participated in the parade, as did stilt walker Neil Sauter, and the Durand VFW Post #2272 assisted the Durand Police Department in leading the substantial parade through Durand.
