County Line Antique Tractor Club Secretary Annette Devereaux is shown on her John Deere antique tractor which was originally given to a bride as a wedding gift. The tractor still bears the sign of its name, given to it by the bride as, “Every Woman’s Dream.” The tractor was named when someone

sarcastically made a comment regarding the gift, as the bride received it from her soon-to-be husband. Devereaux will be a part of the drive to northern Michigan to the tractor show there in Sept. of this year. (Independent Photos/Elizabeth Wehman)
Eleven well-known brands of tractors were on display at the 15th Annual County Line Antique Tractor Show held on Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16 at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds. “This event is a free, fun time for everybody,” announced Club President Floyd Koerner. This is the fifth year for the club to host this show at the fairgrounds, but their fifteenth show.

Represented tractors were made as early as 1930 through 1972 with big tractor names like John Deere, Oliver, Farmall (which was the feature tractor for this particular show), Ford, Allis Chalmers, Massey Harris/Ferguson, Moline, BF Avery, and Leader, which is a rare tractor. Eighty six entries were on display for visitors to admire.

The County Line Tractor Club are highlighted in many Shiawassee County parades including city light parades around Christmas as well as many festival and

holiday events.

This year’s big event for the club will be a trek north to Mackinaw City to be a part of the state-wide Tractor Show during the weekend of Sept. 9 and 10. Koerner has been named this year’s Grand Marshal and will be leading the tractor parade over the Mackinac Bridge during the tractor parade. The club tractors will leave Bannister during the early morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 6 to head up to the tractor festival. Many of the tractors average about 25 to 30 miles per hour, so the trip will take most of the week to finish. Watch for reports regarding the event in future Independent Newspapers.
