The next voting meeting for the 100+ Women Who Care – Greater Durand Area will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21 at the Durand First United Methodist Church, located at 10016 E. Newburg Rd.

This is a group of women who are interested in supporting the local community of the greater Durand area – which includes Durand, Byron, Bancroft, Lennon, Gaines, and Vernon – by contributing to local organizations together, as a unit, to increase the impact of their donation. Members are encouraged to nominate their favorite 501(c)(3) organization. Three names are drawn from the “hat” at the beginning of each meeting, and those names selected then get to “pitch” their organization to the group. Members cast their vote and the lucky recipient is announced at the meeting.

The last recipient of the group’s generosity was Durand Union Station Inc. (DUSI). A representative of DUSI will be at the meeting on Sept. 21 to explain how the collective donation impacted their organization. Since its inception, the 100+ Women Who Care – Greater Durand Area has donated $15,000 to local organizations.

Women are encouraged to sign up via the website prior to the meeting, but can also do so the night of. Anyone who is not ready to make a commitment is invited to come to the meeting and see what it’s all about. The group’s website is http://100womenwhocare-durand.org.
